I've been saying this for a while, but I have to put it on the record if I want to look smart come next August's GOP convention: Mike Huckabee will be the nominee of his party.
Romney? Too slick. Giuliani? Too many ethical questions. Fred Thompson? Was expected to make a big splash and instead did a belly flop. Besides, several southern states will be in play (Virginia, Florida, Arkansas) and a southerner on top of the ticket would be a big help.
I'm still holding out hope that Edwards will win the Dem nomination...

I don't think Huck will make it past South Carolina, but will make a big enough splash that when Rudy wins the nomination that Huck will be the VP pick. One thing is sure, it has been a great nomination battle on both sides. I think the Dem side will be Hillary/Richardson.
Rudy's nomination will mean that NY and NJ are no slam dunk for the Dems... It'll be Hillary vs Rudy.
not so fast. Hillary has proven she can win state-wide in NY. Rudy has not.
No mayor of NYC has ever gone on to hold a higher elected office.
It doesn't matter if New York is an automatic win for Rudy or Hillory, or is any of the other Northeastern Blues would be for that matter.
The point is, Rudy-as-candidate means that the Democrats have to fight in states that they haven't had to fight in for many years, states that are generally media-expensive.
More money spent on media in New York (state and city), Boston, and all over California means less money in traditionally-red states that the Democrats have been fighting hard in.
Ironically, having the two New Yorkers at the top of the ticket makes it a national election once again.
This is just one of the many reasons I've been on board with Giuliani for the last 18 months or so.
um... that would be "Hillary" and "if any of the other Northeastern Blues".
Woe betide anyone typing on this much caffeine after getting up at 5 this morning....
