Many supporters of the Vice President- whether media, bloggers, or other- have come upon an interesting comparison. Dick Cheney, they say, has at the very least admitted he was wrong, which is more than Ted Kennedy did after his infamous car accident in 1969.
So?
Does this mean Dick Cheney is a better man than Teddy? Does this mean that Dick Cheney did NOT shoot a man in the face, albeit accidentally? By comparing the two, are these commentators conceding that Chapaquidick was indeed an accident? Because if it wasn't, the two are not comparable.
In order to be comparable, events must have something in common. So if you're going to compare these two events, either they were both accidents, or they were both heinously intentional. Take your pick.
Rush Limbaugh said he's rather going hunting with Cheney than driving with Teddy. Know what? I'd do either, so long as Rush stays away from my medicine chest.

No...the problem is that the media is making the accident appear to be the worst thing ever yet they give Teddy a complete pass over his willful acts of at best manslaughter!
And then it really isn't even the accidental shooting they are so upset about it is that the VP didn't run to the NY Times and CNN the instance it happened.
It's not like he left the scene of someone dying...first calling his lawyer...then completely creating a cover up story...and then he called in the accident...oh wait...no that last part NEVER happened!
Oh yeah...and Cheney's victim is still alive to discuss the facts of the story.
These stories have nothing in common except to point out the complete hypocrisy of the liberal media.
Ah, yes. The liberal media. Forgot about that. Now it's all much clearer.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go finish reading this month's Harper's.
And how else would you explain the fact that a non-story gets tons of coverage yet a real story was ignored.
In order for the Cheney incident to be appropriately comparable to Chappaquiddick, it must infest every liberal joke for the next 37 years.
