From the Philadelphia Inquirer:

Santorum links Casey to wrong al-Jazeerah

Picture the TV commercial, a deep voice delivering this ominous message, in a slow, deliberate cadence: "Even al-Jazeera endorsed Democrat Bobby Casey Jr. Whose side is he on, anyway?"

It's hard not to think that was partly why Republican blogs and aides to U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum (R., Pa.) sounded giddy last week as they passed around a commentary from a Web site, www.Al-Jazeerah.info.

"Don't ask Santorum to 'apologize,' folks. Vote Democratic," stated the commentary, which denounced the senator's July 20 speech describing the United States as fighting a war on Islamic fascism, not terror.

Santorum referenced it himself Thursday on Fox's O'Reilly Factor.

But there was one little wrinkle.

The Web site was not related to the Arabic TV network based in the Middle East - spelled al-Jazeera, no h.

The goal of al-Jazeerah, according to its Web site, is to "promote cross-cultural understanding between people all over the world." It's based in Dalton, Ga., not Qatar.

"Rick Santorum has reached a new low in gutter politics by trying to ridiculously link Bob Casey to terrorists," Casey spokesman Larry Smar said.

Santorum's spokeswoman, Virginia Davis, said it doesn't make a difference. "We thought we should share these kind of sentiments."

It doesn't make a difference? This is typical of the arrogance in the GOP these days. First DeWine shows an ad with doctored photos of 9/11 (more smoke added digitally to make the destruction look "better,") and now this. Would it be so hard for Santorum to apologize and say, "Sorry, my mistake. Anyone could see how this might happen."

And the GOP says that the war on terror should not be politicized.

Oy vey.

I'll trust your recap of this incident as I don't have the desire to research it to verify it.

So, assuming it is true, this just proves even more that Santorum is definitely losing the seat and is getting extremely desparate. That is an extremely stupid move on their part and even worse response. I gave up on this seat months ago.

However, I still think the Repubs will keep the Senate (may even pick up one) and the House this fall (though they will lose a couple of seats overall).

In the Senate, the GOP loses PA. OH and MO have GOP incumbents trailing in the polls- not to say they can't win, but an incumbent trailing in the polls is usually considered bad news. MN and TN have GOP senators retiring, and both races are dead heats (Corker may have a slight lead in TN) The Dem seats that are being challenged hard are Cantwell in WA and Menendez in NJ. MD is an open dem seat, but both Cardin and Mfume lead Steele by double digits in the polls.

I don't know where you learned math, but let me give you an arithmetic lesson: assuming a Santorum loss, for the GOP to gain in the senate, they would have to win EVERY tight race currently in GOP hands (OH, TN, MO, OH, MN) plus TWO more (two out of three from NJ, WA, MD) - all while the leader of their party is at a 38% approval rating.

GOP will keep the House, my guess is they will lose 7 or 8 seats.

OH, MO, TN and NJ will hold hold for current party.

MD, WA and PA will switch.

MN is the only one I'm not sure on hence the break even or pick up a seat.

And if Harris weren't the candidate in FL that would have been another very possible pickup.

That's my prediction 4 months out.

Also, I don't believe for one second that she will do it, but did you hear anything about Landrieu threatening to switch parties over the oil-revenue bill?

We're not playing the "what if" game. Harris is the nominee, and she will lose.

$50 says the Dems pick up at least 2 senate seats.

You in?

I don't bet money on politics or sports...so how about another guest post for the winner? (btw...I'll should be able to post yours tomorrow now that I'm caught up)

I say a net gain of one seat for Repubs in the Senate.

What is your prediction of net results?
